Council Tax Information

Council tax is a tax applied to residential properties in England, Wales and Scotland (but not Northern Ireland). Council tax is applied to properties, not people, but exemptions from paying the tax are based on the sort of people who live in the property. A property is exempt from council tax if everyone who lives there falls into at least one of several categories, including full-time college or university students. As such, full-time students are usually exempt from paying council tax

Providing you are enrolled onto a full-time course with the University you can be issued with a letter confirming your full-time student status which you can then send to your local authority. The best way for you to request this is via the My ULaw app > Self Service Portal > Request a Letter. Alternatively you can email studentinfo@law.ac.uk

Please note that if you are on a part-time course or the standalone SQE Prep course you do not qualify for council tax exemption.
